Nanbu Town

A girl I met in my Japanese class and I decided to check out Nanbu Town. We got lost a few times and it was very hard to find but it was worth it! We went to this little Information Center and the lady called a local farmer. The farmer came and we followed him to his field. We paid 500 yen ($6.00) and we could go into the field and eat whatever we wanted. There was a large vineyard and at the bottom of the hill there was a large apple orchard. The grapes were pretty sour but the apples were the best apples I have ever tasted and they were really big. So we picked a few and took them home with us! It was a fun little adventure.

Yum!!

This is a little campground where you sleep in little tree houses!

Beautiful Country! I love seeing the mountains!

Oirase Gorge and Lake Towada

Shinto Shrine in Towada City
Shinto Shrine in the woods at Lake Towada

We paid a little fee and rang the bells!
Not sure what these are for - maybe little prayer cards.

Torii Gate - you always see these in front of a Shinto Shrine

I guess they have bears here!

I LOVE waterfalls!

Wish you were here

Fish on a stick anyone??

We bought some chicken on a stick from this little vendor in Lake Towada.

Tour of Misawa

I went on a tour of Misawa with a group of people from the base. We saw a Buddhist Temple, an old Samurai House, had a little class on Japanese culture, ate some sushi, and went to a little shopping center. It was very educational and a lot of fun! Just wish Craig could have been there - but I guess someone has to work!

Inside the Buddhist Temple

Check out that bling-bling!

The little box to the left is where you light incense for you deceased loved one.

I didn't quite catch the whole story behind these little cubby holes with dishes in them. But what I understand is that the families come and have a meal together to remember there deceased loved one.

Buddha

Anyone know what that says?

Down to the right is the Misawa Train station

Coco's Curry!

One of Craig's favorite restaurants while living in Okinawa was Coco's Curry. So when we found out that Hachinohe,a town near us, had Coco's Curry we had to go! I must say it was very good curry!

YUM! Look I'm even getting the hang of using chopsticks!

Shipwreck Beach!

The first weekend we were able to get out and explore we went to Shipwreck Beach. It was about an hour drive from Misawa. There were several old boats that had been washed up on shore. We also did some beach combing and found lots of little pieces of sea glass. It was a fun little adventure!
